Released on her coronation day in June of 1953, this liquor symbolizes her rule in both name and in the carefully crafted colored bottles, coming in royal blue, ruby red and deep emerald green. The nose strides in with scents of freshly baked ginger cookies layered in toffee and sprayed with hits of orange zest. From first taste, this liquor announces its arrival like the trumpets of a queen’s parade – toasted caramel weaved with high notes of toasted oak, baking spices and lively tones of tarragon and thick tar. Hues of freshly plucked mint and bitter wood along with bites of aged tobacco entertain the mouth for a finish that is long and surprisingly smooth. Pleasant whisky: sensitive and fruity on the button with traces of orange strip and pears and a sense of taste rich with sweet wood flavors hazelnut and singed oak. The body is somewhat level and the completion a touch short still... I like it.
